About the Lab

Our lab is committed to innovation, collaboration, and translational impact

We develop tools that not only fuel new therapies but also empower immunologists to ask questions that were previously technologically out of reach. Just as importantly, we are building a community of driven young scientists equipped to advance human health for decades to come.

Meet the P.I.

Dr. Fang-Yi “Ida” Su

Assistant Professor
Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Department of Bioengineering
Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center

Ida is a bioengineer and immunotherapy innovator whose work sits at the intersection of biomolecular engineering, nanotechnology, and immune cell biology.

Motivated by a lifelong commitment to improving patient care, she develops technologies that precisely engineer immune cells within the body to create safer, more effective, and more accessible treatments for cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. Her research has advanced new approaches for in vivo mRNA delivery, antigen-specific immunotherapy, and programming disease microenvironments, with the dual goal of expanding therapeutic options and enabling a deeper understanding of T cell biology. As a mentor and collaborator, Ida is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and translating bold engineering ideas into real-world clinical impact.

The Su Lab Superstars

  • Kayla King

    Undergraduate Student

Kayla is from California and is pursuing her B.S. in Bioengineering at UCLA. She previously interned at City of Hope’s T Cell Therapeutics Lab under Dr. Lior Goldberg, where she contributed to CAR-T cell research. Kayla now builds on that foundation in immunology as a member of Dr. Su’s lab. Beyond her academic pursuits, she enjoys running, soccer, and taekwondo.

  • Katie Northrop

    Undergraduate Student

Katie Northrop is pursuing a double major in Bioengineering and Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG). Her research interests focus on pathogenic mechanisms underlying autoimmune diseases and using immunoengineering approaches to prevent and treat cancer. Outside of the lab, Katie is an avid runner, having completed several half marathons, a full marathon, and a 50 km ultramarathon.

  • Jeff Lee

    Undergraduate Student

Originally from Taiwan, Jeffery Lee is pursuing a major in Biology at UCLA. His research interests broadly focus on immunology, autoimmune disease mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches for immune-related disorders. Outside of the lab, Jeffery enjoys fitness and strength training, aviation, and community health outreach.

  • Skyler Rosenberg

    Undergraduate Student

Skyler Rosenberg is from Orange County, California and is pursuing his B.S in Chemical Engineering. His research focuses on immunoengineering to find novel cancer treatments, targeting solid tumors. He previously interned at UCI's Chaput Laboratories, building a foundation in protein purification and crystallization. Outside research, Skyler enjoys playing classical piano, traveling Europe, and driving vintage cars.
